This time of the year brings many of us joy. However, we sometimes forget the things that have to be done because we are celebrating football, good food, family, and many holidays. With all the celebrating we will be doing, let us not forget to protect ourselves and our belongings.
1. Clean out your chimney.
In order to cozy up to your fire, you have to first clean your chimney. This prevents smoke damage, smoke back up, and FIRES. Do this before the weather drops too low to prevent fires and home damage.
2. Clean out your gutters.
Fall and winter can be unpredictable in the Carolinas. When your gutters are clean, the water and snow have somewhere to fall and melt into. Clogged gutters may result in leaks, mold accumulation, and rotting. Having your gutters cleaned out in the spring and fall can help protect your home all year long.
3. Check the weather before you leave in the morning.
This will not only help you with choosing weather-appropriate attire, but can also protect you. If the weather is rainy or snowy, leaving 15 minutes early can help immensely. If you and the other drivers on the road have to stop and go during adversity, you can still be on time to your intended destination. This can also keep you and others safe, as it is best to drive more cautiously when it is raining or snowing.
4. Check your insurance policies!
If you're putting your motorcycle up for the winter, does your policy let you pause your insurance or will you be paying all year long? Check your home insurance! Are you protected if something happens during rain, snow, or wind? What about holiday burglars? Last but not least, what about your auto insurance? Are your inexperienced drivers covered? If you get a DWI during the holidays, we can help there too!
